Meet the Oak team!
Allie Racette – Publisher and Editor
Allie graduated from SUNY Potsdam in December 2015 with a BA in Professional Writing and returned to her Northern New York hometown of Plattsburgh. She has been “adulting” with moderate success from her book-infested apartment on Oak Street since February 2016. Soon after earning her degree and settling down in the city, Allie realized just how scarce the publication opportunities for young, new, and casual writers in the North Country were–and still are. Allie founded Oak Lit Mag with the hope of providing an affordable and accessible platform for creative writers–young and old, new and seasoned–in the Plattsburgh area (and beyond) to share their talents.
Roseanna Boswell – Poetry Editor
Roseanna graduated from SUNY Potsdam in May 2016 with her BFA in Creative Writing and is now pursuing her MFA in Poetry at Bowling Green University, Ohio. She is passionate about approaching poetry as an accessible and meaningful art form that can help put a voice to a diverse range of contemporary experiences. Apart from writing and reading poetry, her main interests include: saving the planet from the patriarchy, and becoming a social media aficionado.
Melissa Phelan – Poetry Editor
Melissa graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a BFA in Creative Writing in May 2016, and is now pursuing a degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (with plans to pursue an MFA in poetry at a later date). She believes poetry to be an exquisite distillation of life and enjoys reading everything from traditional blank verse to experimental prosetry. When not getting lost in beautiful words, she can be found clambering up mountains and building bookshelves for her ever vaster collection of books.
